Agneepath Scheme for Military Recruitment: The Union Cabinet took a historic decision approving an attractive recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the Armed Forces for which a scheme has been introduced with the name AGNEEPATH. The youth selected under the Agneepath scheme will be categorised as Agniveers. The Armed Forces will be recruiting 46,000 Agniveers this year through this scheme. With the announcement of this Agnipath Scheme, a window of opportunity has been opened for the youths to serve their nation for a period of 4 years. What is Agneepath Scheme?

Agneepath Scheme in Indian Armed Forces is a scheme wherein selected candidates will be enrolled as Agniveers for four years period. On completion of the four-year period, Aginveers will go the society as a disciplined, dynamic, motivated, and skilled workforce for employment in other sectors to pursue their career in the job of their choice. 

Agneepath Scheme is a step that promises radical changes in recruitment for the Indian Armed Forces, the Agneepath scheme would add 46,000 soldiers to the Indian Army, Indian Navy and India Air Force. The Agnipath recruitment scheme is a transformative initiative that will provide a youthful profile to the armed forces. The entry through Agneepath Scheme would be done for a period of 4 years initially. During these 4 years, the recruits would be trained by the armed forces in the skills required. Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said women will also be inducted into the armed forces under the new scheme. Officials, however, added that the recruitment of women under the scheme will depend on the needs of the respective services.

Agnipath Scheme- Latest Updates 

Recruitment Details- The Indian Air Force releases details on the 'Agnipath' recruitment scheme in a PDF format on its official website https://indianairforce.nic.in/agniveer/. 

Indian Air Force & Indian Army will be releasing detailed Agneepath Recruitment Notifications in June 2022 on their respective official websites. 

10% vacancies in CAPF: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said it has decided to reserve 10 per cent vacancies for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam Rifles for Agniveers. 

Incentives- The ministries of home affairs and defence announced concessions and incentives that will assist Agniveers in their further employment. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the PSUs under his housing and petroleum ministries are working on hiring 'Agniveers' after their four-year service in the armed forces.

Revised Age Limit- The upper age limit for Agniveers has been revised to 23 years

Reservation- The government has announced a 10% reservation for ‘Agniveers’ in central police forces & Assam Rifles with upper age relaxation. Defence Ministry also came up with 10% quota which will cover the Coast Guard, defence civilian posts and 16 defence PSUs, which include major ones like Hindustan Aeronautics, Bharat Electronics, as well as four shipyards and 41 ordnance factories.

Selection Process By Air Force Under Agneepath Scheme is to begin from 24th June 2022 onwards as announced by Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari. 

Notification Release- Army Chief General Manoj Pande says, "Agneepath Recruitment 2022 process is going to begin soon. Within the next 2 days, a notification will be issued on http://joinindianarmy.nic.in. After that our Army recruitment organisations will declare a detailed schedule of registration and rally"

Training- As per, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, the training of first agniveers will begin this December (in 2022) at the centres.

Thousands of youngsters, who are staging protests in parts of Bihar, UP and Haryana, are demanding an immediate rollback of the scheme. Protests against the Centre's Agnipath recruitment scheme continued in several parts of the country for the third day on Friday. The protests are carried as the radical scheme to recruit the bulk of soldiers for only four years will hit the professionalism, regimental ethos and fighting spirit of the Army. The protests, which started in Bihar, have now spread to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. Some Highlights of Agneepath Scheme Protests going around the country are as follows- 

◙ In 3 days around 620 people have been arrested and 130 FIRs have been registered. 140 people have been arrested on 18th June 2022

◙ Centre provides 'Y' category security by CRPF to 10 BJP leaders in Bihar including Deputy CMs & MLAs.

◙ Haryana sees more protests against Agnipath, railway station damaged in Punjab. Over 50 youths, with their faces covered and some carrying sticks, barged into the railway station complex and broke ticket counters and glass panes in Jalandhar

◙ Maharashtra BJP president Chandrakant Patil says "The violent protests against Agnipath, the Centre's new military recruitment scheme, are politically motivated and registration of criminal cases against those indulging in arson and damaging public property will make it "extremely difficult" for them to get jobs in future"

◙ Congress leaders will sit on Satyagraha against the government’s Agnipath scheme on 19th June 2022 from 11 am onwards at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi

◙ Chief secretaries of all states alerted by Union home ministry about the on going agitation against Agnipath scheme

◙ Chirag Paswan, the Lok Sabha MP from Jamui, came on the streets of Patna and started the peaceful march along with his supporters from his residence at SK Puri and they were intercepted at Hartali Mor on Bailey road.

◙ Thirteen trains, including two Shatabdi Express trains, scheduled to leave from Howrah and other stations in West Bengal on Saturday, have been cancelled due to Agnipath protests.

◙ NER cancelled 34 express trains, terminated two before their destination and has halted 19 trains on track due to violent protest.

◙ Widespread protests against the “Agnipath” scheme broke out in Rohtak and other parts of the state, with farmers’ organisations and khap panchayats joining the stir.

What is Agniveer?

The youth selected under the Agneepath scheme will be categorised as Agniveers. Agniveers will be offered an opportunity to apply for permanent enrolment in the Armed Forces after a period of 4 years. The youths falling in the age group of 17.5 years to 23 years (revised upper age limit) who favour patriotism, teamwork, enhancement of physical fitness, ingrained loyalty to the country and availability of trained personnel to boost national security in times of external threats, internal threats and natural disasters can apply through Agneepath Yojna to become Agniveers.

4. To provide an opportunity to the youth who may be keen to serve the Nation in uniform for a short period of time. 

5. To attract youth talent among the society to effectively exploit, adopt, and use emerging modern technologies with enhanced technical thresholds of intake while leveraging Technical institutions of the country.

The vacancies and joining process will be made available on the armed forces’ respective websites, joinindianarmy.nic.in, joinindiannavy.gov.in, and careerindianairforce.cdac.in. The scheme was announced on 14th June 2022 and the opening of applications is likely to start shortly. The first Agnipath entry rally Bharti is expected to be started in September/October 2022.

Agneepath Yojna Salary

Agniveers will be given an attractive customised monthly package along with Risk and Hardship allowances as applicable in the three services. On completion of their engagement period of 4 years, Agniveers will be paid one time ‘Seva Nidhi’ package of Rs 11.71 Lakh which shall comprise their contribution including accrued interest thereon and matching contribution from the Government equal to the accumulated amount of their contribution including interest as indicated below. The salary for Agniveers in the 1st year will be around Rs. 4.76 lakh per annum which increases to Rs. 6.92 lakh per annum for the final year. Check monthly package, in-hand salary, contribution to Agniveer Corpus Fund and corpus fund by GoI from below tabular data. 

The ‘Seva Nidhi’ will be exempt from Income Tax.
